Case Histories

The clients I see come with a diversity of complaints, as this selection of case histories shows.

* Adrian Brazier, 38 year old farrier and father of two .
"I came across Bowen when I arrived to shoe Aurele's horses and my back was killing me. She told me to bend over the stable door and 'take it like a man'. She did a few moves on my lower back and over the sciatic nerve. The pain simply went! Later I realised that it had not just helped my back, but my body as a whole. Over the past 5 years I have had Bowen everytime my back protested. With my job, and two young energetic kids it certainly takes a hammering. But it is not just the Bowen. Aurele's individual approach to health has made me view my body in a completely different light. This new awareness has enabled me to release tension not just on a physical level, but also from my mind."

In 2004 I was approached by a mother whose 12 year old girl was suicidal and anorexic. Physically and verbally abusive, she was getting increasingly violent at home and at school. All conventional avenues had been tried - with no success.. She had been on Ritalin which caused diarrhoea and weight loss. Then they tried Risperdrel, which improved her appetite, but was not licensed in the UK for under 18s. They tried dieticians, a focus solution clinic and she was on Dexamphetamine sulphate and clonidine when she came to see me. Vanessa said she was prepared to try anything to "bring back the happy, confident little girl I know she is deep down inside"
Working with both mother and daughter at the same time, the first session consisted of Bowen and EFT. I also taught them some relaxing breathing techniques. Vanessa wrote in her journal
"The following day, my daughter got up and dressed for school, ate a good breakfast and even did 2 peieces of homework before trotting happily off to school. I cannot stress how alien this is to my household. Normally an hour long battle commences where I have to physically dress my daughter, try to coax her into eating then cajole her into taking her medication before frog marching her to catch the school bus"

After 2 sessions we discussed Hannah coming off her medication and Vanesssa off Prozac. With full agreement from their GP a plan was made and after another 3 session they were drug free. Vanessa says
"I was extremely sceptical about trying alternative medicine, but now recommend it to everyone".

Readers, please note. When I take a case history, I will search back to your very beginnings to track down the trigger for the imbalances your body may now be manifesting. In this case, Hannah's vulnerability stemmed from when she was 7 months in utero when her father upped and left leaving the pregnant mother alone without a roof over her head. To me it is completely logical that the baby experiences the mothers intense fears and is therefore affected by them.

All the children I have worked with who have acute behavourial problems have something in their history that triggered the pattern.

* Lily, 54 years old, wife and mother of two
In October 2004 she came to me suffering from ME for over 30 years. Virtually housebound for all these years, she was liberated from these incapacitating symptoms. She came for 10 sessions and then booked herself and her family a long haul holiday - their first ever! She now comes for a 'top-up' as and when.

* 72 year old Bert Neal came with a chronic sciatic problem, recurrent nightmares and an all consuming sense of bitterness. He had had 5 Bowen sessions with a colleague who felt that some EFT was desperately needed.
Bert responded fabulously to just one session of EFT (it is pretty amazing though). He came on a Thursday and left pain free. On Monday he reported that he had not had a dream since let alone a nightmare and all the anger had left him. "!'m over the moon at it all" he said in a note that arrived with a pot of chrysanthemums later in the week.
Berts is another prime example of where our emotional reaction to life's unjust events takes up residence in our body to make us pay attention!

* 36 year old mother of 4 had a routine smear test which was suspicious. It is not a pleasant experience at the best of times, but the news came through her letter box in an impersonal letter which deeply shocked her. She then started an unpleasant discharge and a suspected bladder infection. One session of Bowen and EFT enabled her body to release all the symtpoms.

*One of my earliest Bowen patients was an 59 year old heavy plant driver. He came with a plethora of structural problems resulting from injuries over the years, but his main complaint was the sciatic pain and the pain in his back. It turns our that his wife had died recently.
After the Bowen he sat up and was VERY quiet, then proceeded to start trembling all over, very cold and shivery he wept. Fortunately he lives nearby so he went home to bed. The next day he rang to say "I don't know what you do but its brilliant!"

* 42 year highschool teacher, wife and mother of two had been chronically ill since her mother died two years previously. The doctors diagnosed polymyalgic rheumatica and added that it could be fully blown rheumatoid arthirits within 5 years. The doctors had said that it could be stress related, but didn't address that aspect. They simply presecribed steroids! She was back at work and full of energy after two sessions during which we did Bowen, EFT and processed all the turmoil of emotions she had experienced since her mother had died.

*5 year old diagnosed with glue ear and constant catarrh came for two sessions and all symptoms including the sleep problems and headaches cleared. With this young chap we did Bowen, but also prescribed a single homeopathic remedy AND advised NO MORE RIBENA!
